Party pics

Lolo had an end of the year kindergarten party last night. Party was fun. It's always a treat to see Lolo running around with her classmates. Just one more
week of school for both girls until we head out to China. The girls are very excited about our upcoming trip.
Norah started to perk up around the other kids...of course, ice cream and cupcakes didn't hurt either. This morning, Norah is still home with me but she seems to be back up to speed. She has either been talking or eating continuously since waking up....making up for lost time I guess.

Hmmm

Starting to wonder how long these sores in Norah's mouth will last....and how long a child can survive on banana milkshakes and vanilla pudding.

Better days

Here's our Norah...last week at the playground.

More of the same...

Nor is still feeling crummy. So crummy that she doesn't even want a popsicle....which is unheard of for Norah. Even more un-Norah like, she has not been talking. She just wimpers and cries. So so sad.
We were up a good part of the evening. She kept waking up because she felt so bad. Exhausted this morning, she put herself down for a morning nap.

On being "little"

In other "poor Norah" news...our Nor has been having a difficult time lately in preschool. It seems that other kids have been giving her a hard time about being "small" and "little". She was sitting in the car today getting weepy, telling me and Jim how the kids in her class were calling her "small" and "little"....she's not "little" and she's not "small"....she's growing every day. Oh boy. Now I know why she doesn't want to be "my little girl". I wanted to get weepy with her. Sometimes it can be tough to have my genes.

Ugh

It's been a few years...but we've been going through another round of hand, foot,&mouth disease at our house. Lovely.
The last time, Lolo was just a baby and we were about to go on Vicki's wedding cruise. Lolo and Jim (especially Jim) got hit with it really hard. We were concerned that we'd get banned from the cruise ship.
This time Lolo got it again (a lesser version...presumeably because she's had it before) and Norah has it really really bad (presumeably because it's her first round). Huge sores down both sides of her tongue. Poor kid. She had tears running down her face during church. I figured we'd head home early, but they announced there would be breakfast (including donuts) after church and Norah really wanted to stay. Somehow, she managed to take a few bites of donut and drained a glass of apple juice. She's been munching on popsicles (and ibuprofin) since then. We're hoping today is the worst of it.

Birthday party

It's been a very busy day. We first made a stop at Lolo's school this morning. They were having a neighborhood art fair. We stopped to shop and the girls made copper stamped name plates.
Then, Lolo was invited to a birthday party at a train museum today. When Norah and I went to drop her off the parents graciously let us stay to play...the girls had a blast. Norah always enjoys playing with the older girls...and even got to have some ice cream cake and came back home with her own treat bag.
Jim and I are heading out this evening on a date night. Going to a brazilian restaurant and Eileen is coming over for a "playdate". The girls are down for a rest. What a jam packed day.

Disney princesses are so yesterday

Lolo commented to me the other day, "Mom, I don't know why I have so many princess things. I don't even like princesses!"
Yep. We've hit another developmental milestone. I didn't really like the whole princess thing...but frankly, I have fear of what is coming next.
Why can't they just stick with Dora? I love that spunky bilingual trip girl with the purple backpack.
Will we be able to avoid Hannah Montana?

The importance of preschool

A snippet of our conversation this morning on our way to school...
Norah : "Mama, did you know bats, bees, and butterflies are called pollinators?"
Me: "Huh! I knew about bees and butterflies. I didn't know about bats!"
Lolo: "That's because you didn't go to preschool."

No little girls in this house

Just so you know, we have no little girls in this house. I made the mistake yesterday....said something to Norah about how much I love my "little girls". Wow. That set her off and I was immediately corrected. She is not a "little girl". She is a "big kid". She is potty trained, sleeping in a big girl bed....the list goes on and on.
Seems I hit a sore spot with her.

Stylin'

Gifts

Here's the basket Norah made me for mother's day. Very sweet. We've decided to use it as a fruit basket. Lolo made a couple of very nice cards for me and then helped Norah make cards for me too. Very sweet.

Happy Mother's Day

A beautiful mother's day....the girls were super excited that it was donut day at church. Norah got herself dressed today :-) She's developing her own unique sense of style.
After church, haircuts for the girls, lunch at home....and then we rode our bikes to the playground. A very nice day.

Duct tape

Lolo's lunch box has blown a hole. It's so close to the end of the school year, I really don't want to buy a new one. So I told Lolo...no problem...I'm really good with duct tape. Lolo was mortified. No Mama! She'd rather carry a lunchbox with a hole than a lunchbox that her mama has duct taped. LOL!

Updates...allergies and more

Thank goodness for rain! It appears that with our recent rains, Lolo's allergies are much improved. Whatever was giving her a fit has either bloomed and gone away....or got washed away in the rain. We're keeping our fingers crossed that she's done with allergies for the season.
In other news, Norah requested that I "get rid of " the child's potty seat. She's decided she's big enough to sit on a regular seat. Hooray!
So, Norah and I had our monday-buddy day today....helping with some errands and chores (informing me what chores still needed to be done). Around lunch time, I was getting ready to refill the bird feeder. Norah looks at me with her beautiful brown eyes and says "But Mama, I'm hungier than the birds. Fix my lunch first please." The birds had to wait.
