Playground sand....advice?

At preschool (and summer camp) Lolo goes out to play on their playground every day. As a result, every day she comes home with a load of sand in her shoes. Here's my problem....we don't have a mudroom....taking off shoes in the garage is icky and not really an option.....how do I manage the sand that gets tracked in every day? Even when I have Lolo sit down to take her shoes off by the door, it still gets dumped out of her shoes onto the floor. Plus, I'm still dumping sand out of her shoes every morning. I'm trying to get her to do things like take off her own shoes, put on her own jacket, etc. to build more independence and life skills. So, I wanted to avoid taking off her shoes for her. Any thoughts?
